Dutch Uncle

Hans Weehuizen has performed six times at the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival. Twice with the group Dutch Courage,three times as Dutch Uncle and once with his group Enkhuizen 4. He has also performed at the Festival with Ken Stephens from Bosun’s Call.

Hans started performing sea songs and shanties 24 years ago with “Compagnie Zangers” a large shanty choir,he formed Dutch Courage 10 years later.

The Dutch and English songs Hans performs are varied and accompanied with the one row squeezebox,concertina or with his Bones.

The Bones are a traditional percussion instrument found aboard sailing ships,originally animal bones but now made from wood or metal.

You can learn to play the bones at the workshops run by Hans on
Saturday 17th 12 noon at The Watersports Centre
Sunday 18th 11am at The Watersports Centre
also during the session at The Poly on Friday 16th between 2pm-4pm.
