Sustainability

Falmouth was one of the first coastal towns to be awarded ‘plastic- free’ status in Cornwall.

With an ever developing focus on climate change, Falmouth community is driven to make sure their town is on the forefront of any sustainable efforts which can be made. Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival wants to continue to respect Falmouth Town and the beautiful surroundings the festival beholds. From reusable cups to enhanced waste management and cleaning provisions, see below for all things sustainable here at Falmouth’s International Sea Shanty Festival.

We are pleased to announce that The Greenbank Hotel are to be a key sponsor of the festival moving forward!

As the largest free maritime music festival in Europe, Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival is predicted to be even larger this year, and The Greenbank Hotel hopes to play a key part in aiding the sustainability element of the weekend, helping to improve recycling and assist with better waste management facilities.

“The Greenbank is delighted to support the festival this year. We hope to enable further recycling and sustainability opportunities throughout the weekend and to further spread our plastic free message far and wide. The town and its activities deserve the full support of the bigger businesses and we all need to demonstrate our commitment through our deeds and not just through our words,” says Ben Young, Managing Director of The Greenbank Hotel.

The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, sponsored by The Greenbank Hotel  and Seasalt Cornwall, had 30,000 reusable cups on offer in 2023.

With a shanty themed design from Seasalt, these collectable cups are available for just £2 from the Festival Shops on Events Square and Custom House Quay, Sharp’s Bar on Events Square, the bar on Church Street Car Park and other venues throughout town.

These stackable cups are a great way to reduce the overall consumption of single use plastic across the festival as well as make a great keepsake. Perfect for garden parties, BBQ’s, beach trips and festivals. Take your cup home with you to re-use again and again!
