Now in their fourth year, the Molgoggers have crammed over 140 appearances into their short career. Progress to date has been, in the words of our beloved captain, Absolutely Marvelous, which coincidently is also the name of our second CD...
Based in the maritime town of Cobh, in lower Cork harbour, the crew are frequent visitors to festivals all over Ireland. Highlights for 2016 were appearances in Northern Ireland at the Rathlin Sound Maritime Festival, at Portaferry and Strangford Lough for the Skiffie World Championships, and at Kilmore Quay in Wexford for the Seafood Festival.
2016 saw our first visit to the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival. We were a bit apprehensive about this appearance but we needn’t have worried. The reception we received from the festival organisers, the knowledgeable shanty supporters and from the other shanty groups made this a most memorable weekend. We were delighted to be invited back this year and are looking forward to meeting up with the many friends we made last time.
The eight-strong a cappella group is comprised of four retired naval personnel and four non-nautical types. We have a wide selection of songs in our repertoire from traditional shanties to contemporary maritime material, all given the Molgogger treatment! If you happen to visit Cobh during July or August, you can catch us in action in the Commodore Hotel where we have a residency on Thursday nights.
