"Oll an Gwella" are a rehearsed acappella male chorus, drawn from Newquay Male Voice Choir. Their choral repertoire of over 100 songs includes Shanties, Cornish folk, 1960s classics plus seasonal & sacred music.
With an attractive mix of humour which delights audiences, their popularity has grown with their repertoire and reputation. They entertain for pleasure, raising thousands of pounds for voluntary, charity & community groups with their singing. The £1200 profit from their first CD (2015 - now sold out) was donated to “The Cove” Cancer Centre. 2016 brought live broadcasts on local radio and they were recorded by ‘Spotlight’ for BBC Television. Often singing from the main stages at Shows and Festivals across Cornwall they have also exported their distinctive harmonies across Southern England and South Wales. Invites to France saw performances in St Malo, Dinard and the prestigious “Festival Interceltique de Lorient”, where they enjoyed 16 performances at one of the largest music festivals in Europe. Equally at home singing on elaborate festival sound stages or on the deck of the “Cutty Sark” and at Salisbury Cathedral, they also take their choral entertainment to weddings, “Memory Cafes”, nursing-homes and schools where their choral workshops encourage children’s singing.
